The evolutionary job of this state is to conserve energy, maybe giving you a chance to escape if the opportunity arises, or to die a relatively painless death which is where those numbing chemical and disconnection come in. You are not meant to spend a lot of time in this state, it’s meant for things that feel life threatening but it can become a default state for those who’ve experienced trauma or long-term chronic stress.
Meet your nervous system where it is first and then slowly layer tools or shift intensity as you become more regulated.
